Do’s and Don'ts for buying designer reproduction furniture

You may be wondering what a designer reproduction is, is it the same as a fake and does it mean the quality will not be as good as the original?  These can be difficult questions to get your head around and there are a lot of different versions of many iconic pieces available so we have written this guide to help you know what to look for and be sure you are getting a beautiful piece of chic furniture that can take pride of place in your home for many years to come.

LC4 Chaise Lounge

You may think that the words fake and reproduction are interchangeable but in reality there is a big difference between a fake and a reproduction.  The main thing to consider is the legality of the piece, a fake is something that the seller will try to pass off as an original and basically dupe the customer.  A reproduction is an item that is sold in the style of the original but is stated as a reproduction and should be done only when the seller has the legal right to sell that item. Under UK law an artist or designers works of furniture are protected so that they cannot be copied, but the good news for consumers is that the design protection expires after 25 years meaning you can enjoy some stunning pieces of furniture at way below the original manufacturers asking prices.  This is also true for our customers throughout the EU as you can buy from us knowing that you are protected under UK trade laws to be able to purchase our fine reproductions.  We would like to point out that whilst it is perfectly legal for all EU customers to purchase from us and have the items delivered to their home countries it may not be legal for you to sell them on in your country.

Eames Lounge Chair

When looking to buy a piece of reproduction designer furniture you may find that there are many different versions available from many different suppliers at different price points.  This is especially true for the really iconic pieces such as the Eames Lounge chair for example.  The most important thing to consider is the quality of the piece and weather it will match up to not only the design but also the high grade materials used in the original.  We only deal with trusted suppliers who specialise in creating furniture that will match not only the design but the dimensions and features and materials of the original.  If a company can sell a chair we are selling for half the price you will inevitable find that the quality is less than half.  You should look at the product descriptions, we like to be sure we can list all the materials used in our reproduction furniture so you know exactly what you are getting before you go ahead and place your order.  We want to ensure that we are able to supply something that not only reproduces the overall feel and image of the original we also want to reproduce the quality and longevity of the piece.

Another important factor to consider when looking at the materials used is how much detail is given, if an item i simply stated as being leather then whilst at first glance it may seem like a good amount of information what type of leather is it.  You can rest assured with our Eames reproductions all the leather is top quality semi aniline leather sourced from Italy do other suppliers offer this?

Whilst we have tried to cover as many of the important factors to look at there will of course be other questions that arise so we have a sales team on hand to answer them on your behalf.  We know that there are a lot of designer reproductions available but we only sell the best so we know you will be happy with your purchase.
